Brian Smith, CPA
Original co-designer of the PracticeWorks software system, accountant, 20 year veteran of the dental industry
If it weren't for Brian, PracticeWorks simply wouldn't exist. In the early 1990's, when it was clear that Microsoft Windows
was here to stay, he was faced with a choice: either continue selling the DOS dental program he'd been selling since 1987,
or come up with something new. He chose "something new," hired Joel, and together they created PracticeWorks. .
Brian and Joel are responsible for the concept and design of every single significant feature that exists in PracticeWorks up
through version 5.0. There is simply no one who knows more about PracticeWorks - what it can do, what it can't do, and how to
make it do it.
Brian makes sure he fully understands a problem before he dives into a solution. This is true for something as simple as
automating the display of a message at check-in, and as complex as designing an entire automated patient communications system.
He has been doing office management consulting since 1987, when he started in the dental software business. With his accounting
and business background (he's a CPA, but don't ask him to do your taxes!), he understands the dollars and cents of dentistry as well
as anyone.
Brian graduated with honors from Indiana University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
